fall mold testing, house mold maintenance

Since fall is the season where we begin to get our houses ready to be closed up for winter, there are a few tips that will assist you in preventing moisture build-up, which can cause mold:
– make sure that even in the winter you have a dehumidifier running in your basement. Often times people only use a dehumidifier through the warm months, however, condensation and moisture build-up can still occur in colder months and allow for mold in basement cold cellars and other unfinished areas.
– make sure that all your window, doors and cracks in your house’s cladding area sealed properly with caulking or other sealant before the weather becomes colder and wet. Improper seals can cause condensation and moisture build-up.
– make sure your eaves and downspouts are clear of debris.
– if you store cloth or porous items in your basement over the winter, make sure they are stored off the flooring on either metal or plastic shelving to promote air flow and prevent moisture from wicking onto the item from the flooring or exterior walls.
